I hate losing my notes. I'm a little paranoid about that. That's why Dropbox and Sugarsync have been so amazing.
But I feel like I'm just too close to love them. I'll be moving on... to Google Drive.
Google Docs is nothing new, and I've known about it (and used it through my Gmail account when I had to) for a few years. But Google Drive (introduced earlier this year) is a completely different beast.
While I'm not so much amazed by the syncing capability of Drive (old news to Dropbox users), there's one thing I hadn't considered - the ability to Google search all of my documents!
For the record, a Google search is much much much better than just using Windows Search or OSX's Finder to find things. Think "boolean search terms." You can do a "reverse citation" lookup on just about everything you've written that is contained within Google Drive.
Check out the above video, then go checkout Google Drive. It might just be what you need.

Sounds great I will give it a try.
ReplyDeleteJust a silly question. If I install it on my PC, my Android Tablet and my iPhone is it going to try and download all my files onto my phone? If so it will use way too much storage.
ReplyDeleteNot a silly question at all! In short, no. In the iOS app you have to individually enable each file to be viewable offline. I just keep the latest documents I'm working on checked to be viewable offline. Everything else sits in the cloud.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds perfect. Many thanksRay
ReplyDeleteIs it better to use google chrome? Also, I added some files to Google dr. at home on my laptop. But, when I get to work and go to google dr. they don't show up?What Am I doing wrong?
